Breast Health Patient Information System Improves Patient Education

A new breast health system is a novel means of providing and empowering patients with their complete mammography history and breast care information on an automatically produced CD or DVD. Depending on the facility, this information may include mammography history, patient health data, educational/instructional content, and medical images.

Rimage Corp. (Minneapolis, MN, USA), a provider of on-demand digital publishing systems, and DatCard (Irvine, CA, USA), a software developer, will donate a comprehensive breast health system called MammoSmart to a selected healthcare facility where digital mammography is practiced. The launch of this promotion coincided with this year's Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) conference on November 25-30, 2007, in Chicago, IL, USA.

Healthcare facilities can now offer patients and referring physicians a CD or DVD with comprehensive, personalized information about breast health, due to an evolving partnership between Rimage and DatCard Systems. "We are thrilled to be working with our longtime partners at DatCard to educate the medical community about MammoSmart,” said Robert Martinez, vice president of medical sales for Rimage. "The MammoSmart system takes patient education to a whole new level, and gives healthcare facilities the ability to deliver personally-relevant diagnostic information to each patient. With broader knowledge of their breast health, patients will be better equipped to make decisions regarding their care.”

"The beauty of MammoSmart is [that] facilities can now provide all breast health patients with comprehensive, yet personalized medical information on disc, replacing dozens of printed handouts and reducing consultation times,” said Andrew Rosenzweig, vice president sales and marketing of DatCard Systems. "Patients can watch procedure videos, read background information about their diagnosis, or bring their medical images on disc to a specialist for further review. MammoSmart truly empowers patients to take control of their breast health care,”

Rimage is a provider of recordable CD, DVD, and Blu-ray Disc (BD) publishing systems, which are used by businesses to produce discs with customized digital content on an on-demand basis. Rimage's publishing systems, which span the range from high to low CD and DVD production volumes, integrate robotics, software, and surface label printers into a complete publishing system.

DatCard Systems is a software developer, integrator, and a leading global supplier of Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) digital distribution systems. The company was established with the goal of creating a software/hardware system that would provide a completely automated, cost-effective alternative to the inefficiencies of storing and distributing laser film. The goal was achieved with the introduction of PacsCube--the first generation DICOM distribution system. With the launch of its second product, MammoSmart, DatCard Systems is providing and empowering patients with their complete mammography history and breast care information on an automatically produced and customizable CDs and DVDs.
