GE to Integrate CAD Software in Mammography System

In a move to enhance the early detection capability of its mammography system, GE Medical Systems (Waukesha, WI, USA) has announced a development and distribution agreement with CADx Systems, Inc. (Northborough, MA, USA). The agreement will enable GE to integrate CADx Systems' Second Look computer-aided detection (CAD) software for use with the GE Senographe 2000D full-field mammography system.

The software utilizes new technology to highlight potential areas of concern on a report called a Mammograph, calling attention to subtle changes in tissue that may indicate the presence of cancer. After viewing a mammogram, the radiologists refer to the Mammagraph to assist them with their final decision. Studies have shown that up to 23% of breast cancers could have been discovered on average 15 months earlier with the use of Second Look.

"Our agreement with CADx will give Senographe 2000D users around the world access to another advanced technology for early breast cancer detection,” said Dow Wilson, general manager of surgery, x-ray, and interventional imaging, GE Medical Systems.
