(Mortsel, Belgium) has agreed to acquire Mitra Inc. (Waterloo, Canada), a long-time technology partner that has played an integral role in the development and success of Agfa's Impax PACS solutions. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Mitra is a leading developer of imaging and information management systems, with installations in more than 35 countries. The company says its technology interacts with every major hospital information system (HIS)/radiology information system (RIS) in the world. Its range of technologies facilitates all steps in the clinical process, from ordering to diagnostic procedures and interpretation, to results distribution and integration of the electronic patient record. Mitra will be managed as a separate business unit. The company structure, management team, and all employees will be retained.

"Mitra provides a powerful core of software expertise and technological innovation, which will form the core of our Healthcare Informatics business,” said John Glass, general manager, Agfa Healthcare. "They will continue to lead us, and their other OEM partners, in the development of enterprise integration software.”
