Alliance to Market Bone Densitometry

A new marketing partnership has been formed whereby Smith & Nephew Rehabilitation (Germantown, WI, USA) will market the Alexa bone densitometry system of Alara, Inc. (Hayward, CA, USA) to orthopedic surgeons and rehabilitation professionals.

The Alexa is a portable office-based system that measures bone density in the fingers to help doctors diagnose osteoporosis. It takes only 10 seconds to set up and image the fingers, and results are provided in less than a minute. The partnership with Smith & Nephew will expand the use of bone density testing in the orthopedic field and increase overall sales of Alara's densitometry system.

"Orthopedic surgeons have traditionally treated hip, spine, and wrist fractures, which are the final consequences of osteoporosis,” said Terry Rex, senior marketing manager at Smith & Nephew Rehabilitation. "But there is a growing desire within the orthopedic community to recognize the disease in its early stages, when treatments are most effective. The Alexa bone densitometry system gives orthopedic surgeons the ability to diagnose osteoporosis quickly and precisely in their offices.”
