Kodak to Develop Digital Mammography System

Eastman Kodak Company (Rochester, NY, USA) has announced its intent to develop a full-field digital mammography system (FFDM) based on the same amorphous selenium technology used in the company's digital radiography (DR) systems for general radiography. The company believes this technology is the best choice for FFDM systems because it delivers the highest image quality available today in digital radiography.

The new system will include capture, process, print, display, and store capabilities. Kodak already manufactures and markets its DryView 8610 laser imager for use with digital mammography systems. The company says it is the only dry laser imager designed exclusively for high-resolution FFDM. Kodak will also offer advanced processing tools, including computer-aided detection.

According to Margo Robinson, worldwide general manager, mammography and oncology, Health Imaging division, Kodak will continue to support its mammography customers with ongoing enhancements in both film and digital technologies. "Our goal,” she explained, "is to enable customers to choose the technology that best meets their facility's imaging needs.”
