Khosla Ventures Backs Imaging Diagnostics Startup

By MedImaging International staff writers
Posted on 24 May 2015
Zebra Medical Vision (Kibbutz Shfayim, Israel) has received an USD 8 million investment from Khosla Ventures (Menlo Park, CA, USA) to double its team, set up headquarters in the US and increase its scope of work to integrate data from additional Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO). Zebra Medical has already partnered with HMOs from Israel, and around the world.

Zebra Medical collects and processes a large volume of X-Ray, Computed Tomography (CT), and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans to build a large dataset of anonymized medical images. By collecting millions of files of medical scans with corresponding anonymized medical data about the patients, researchers at Zebra Medical will use computer diagnosis algorithms to try to identify diseases earlier, and more accurately than is now possible. Zebra Medical also offers researchers and research teams access to software libraries and other research tools, and use of its image processing capacity on secured private clouds. Research teams in Israel, Canada, and the US, already use this data.

Euan Thomson, operating partner at Khosla Ventures, said, “A patient can go through Mammography many years until something is found. By looking at hundreds and thousands of historical images of such patients much earlier anomalies can be found.”
