Merge Healthcare Acquires DR Systems

Merge Healthcare (Chicago, IL, USA), a publicly-traded leading provider of Health Information Systems (HIS) for medical imaging, interoperability, and communication, has acquired DR Systems (San Diego, CA, USA), a privately-owned supplier of PACS, RIS, and EHR systems, for USD 70 million.

The merged company ranks 'Best in KLAS' by KLAS Research (Orem, UT, USA) in Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Cardiovascular Information Systems (CIS), and in hemodynamics monitoring systems. Dr. Murray Reicher, CEO of DR Systems, will become Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Merge Healthcare.

The acquisition will expand the market share of Merge Healthcare, and will help Merge deploy their iConnect Network and preauthorization services, to a broader client base. Merge Heathcare plans to continue support for DR Systems’ core platform, continue current implementations will continue, and support and advance all DR Systems’ product lines in the future.

Dr. Reicher, commented, “We are joining Merge based on our joint vision of providing a rapidly advancing, unified system for all medical imaging arenas, including radiology, cardiology and pathology. Together, we will enable our customers to connect to consumers and healthcare providers in ways that promote service, patient compliance and improved population health.
