MRI Contrast Agent Offered Through Novel Technology Agreement

Posted on 19 Nov 2013
Guerbet (Villepinte, France) reported the grant of a new agreement by Novation (Irving, TX, USA), a leading healthcare supply-chain expertise, analytics, and contracting company, for gadoterate meglumine (trade name Dotarem) injection.

The agreement was established through Novation’s competitive Innovative Technology program, which looks to identify and contract for innovative products that are used in clinical care and offer an incremental benefit to the care and safety of a patient and healthcare worker.

Dotarem is a gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) indicated for intravenous (IV) use with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain (intracranial), spine, and related tissues in pediatric and adult patients (two years of age and older) to identify and visualize areas with disruption of the blood brain barrier and/or abnormal vascularity.

Dotarem, which has been commercialized widely throughout the world since 1989 and with more than 42 million doses administered outside the United States, is the only macrocyclic and ionic GBCA. The recommended dose is 0.2 mL/kg (0.1 mmol/kg) body weight (BW).

An innovator of contrast agents, Guerbet is the only pharmaceutical group fully focused on medical imaging worldwide. As such, it has a wide range of contrast products for X-ray, MRI, and for interventional radiology, along with a range of injectors and related medical equipment to provide improved diagnosis and treatment of patients. To promote the discovery of new products and assure future growth, Guerbet devotes substantial resources to research and development every year (approximately 10% of sales).

Novation is a leading healthcare supply-chain expertise, analytics, and contracting company for the more than 65,000 members. Novation provides alliance members with sourcing services, as well as information and data services. Novation develops and manages competitive contracts with more than 600 suppliers.

Novation has earned the coveted Ethics Inside Certification from Ethisphere Institute, a leading international think tank dedicated to the research and promotion of best practices in corporate ethics and compliance.
