NDS Surgical Imaging Acquires Dome Imaging, Creating Major Player in Medical Visualization Informatics

NDS Surgical Imaging (NDSsi; San Jose, CA, USA) recently announced the acquisition of Dome Imaging Systems (Beaverton, OR, USA), the medical business unit of Planar Systems, Inc. Dome manufactures novel medical display products for diagnostic imaging and patient care applications.

Dome's customers include global picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) original equipment manufacturer (OEM) suppliers, and leading medical information technology (IT) resellers to healthcare providers. "Bringing together these two respected global leaders in medical visualization provides a wealth of technology for advanced informatics solutions, enabling the clinician to better diagnose and treat patients in both radiology and surgical environments. The combined entity now has the unique capability to connect the realms of PACS imaging and surgical video/informatics, delivering valuable innovation to the radiology reading room and the operating room alike,” explained John Murphy, president and chief executive officer of NDSsi. "Our combined capabilities will enhance our OEM customers' and the practitioners' clinical confidence in the development and use of new medical visualization applications.”

"Dome products are a natural complement to the NDSsi line of surgical visualization solutions sold to OEMs serving healthcare providers,” said Brent Michael, director of sales for Dome. "This combination blankets the market with two experienced and complementary healthcare organizations that will continue to serve their unique marketing channels worldwide, without overlap or disruption in any facet of the business operations.”

NDSsi reported that it would continue to innovate and provide quality products to the global medical markets. NDS Surgical Imaging provides visualization systems that enable imaging informatics in surgery. NDSsi products have helped revolutionize surgical applications globally for over 12 years.

Dome Imaging Systems, founded in 1989, and previously a subsidiary of Planar Systems, Inc., focuses on developing, manufacturing, and marketing sophisticated display products for medical-imaging applications. Dome has attained a leadership position in the medical-imaging market with a series of innovative products that meet the spatial-resolution and image-quality needs of PACS, teleradiology, cardiology, diagnostic viewing stations, OEMs, and system integrators.
