Strategic Alliance for Network Storage Systems

Siemens Medical Solutions (Erlangen, Germany), a world leader in medical equipment and information technology (IT) systems, and EMC Corp. (Hopkinton, MA, USA), a leader in information management and storage, have announced a strategic alliance enabling Siemens to provide the full range of EMC network storage systems to the healthcare market.

To help healthcare providers store, manage, and protect the increasing volume and complexity of patient information and clinical images, Siemens will provide EMC Symmetrix, Clarion, and Centera networked storage systems with its medical imaging systems, Soarian health information systems (HIS), and syngo Suite of radiology information system (RIS) and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS).

The combination of Siemens' and EMC's product range will provide healthcare organizations with a tiered data infrastructure to implement an information lifecycle management (ILM) strategy. Through the deployment of an ILM strategy, healthcare organizations are able to store the correct data at the proper time on the right storage platform to better optimize data accessibility, maximize data protection, streamline information archiving processes, and minimize system downtime.

Using the combined systems from Siemens and EMC, healthcare providers can manage and retain short-term and long-term patient data and clinical images with a robust, automated information infrastructure. This allows referring clinicians and radiologists to securely manage and access images and results in real time from the office, home, or anywhere across the healthcare system.

"By working together, EMC and Siemens will drive dramatic improvements in healthcare providers' information infrastructures, while helping these organizations achieve greater efficiency in their patient care processes,” said David Goulden, executive vice president, Customer Operations, EMC.
