RIS/PACS Contract for Taiwan Medical Center

The National Taiwan University Medical Center (NTUMC, Taipei) has recently announced contracts to install a RIS/PACS (radiology information system/picture archiving and communications system) and an advanced cardiovascular image and information management system at its teaching hospital, the National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH).

The RIS/PACS and Heartlab cardiovascular system to be installed were developed by Agfa (Mortsel, Belgium). This multi-million dollar project is to be completed by early 2006. With the NTUMC's network of satellite hospitals and strong referral power, the installation will strengthen Agfa's position in the region. Agfa acquired Heartlab, Inc. (Westerly, RI, USA), a leading designer and supplier of image and information networks for cardiology, in June 2005. The installation is planned for one of NTUH's seven cath labs.

The hospital was designed to support the concept of patient-centered care, where treatment is delivered at the bedside whenever possible. The hospital endeavors to provide appropriate, effective, and compassionate care that is accessible, affordable, and culturally sensitive, and has served as a model for other hospitals and clinics across the nation.

"With 12 installations in Taiwan, Agfa has managed to build a strong reputation of reliability and excellent local support,” said Herman Raats, Agfa healthcare manager, Asia Pacific North. "We expect to further strengthen our position in the Greater China region with a complete assortment offering and our in-depth knowledge of all customer requirements.”

The National Taiwan University Medical Center, which encompasses the College of Medicine (NTUMC) and the teaching hospital (NTUH), educates and trains students, physicians, and biomedical scholars and provides a spectrum of comprehensive knowledge, research, patient care, and service to the population of Taiwan and beyond.
