MedRad to Distribute Computed Tomography Guide

UltraGuide (Denver, CO, USA) has selected Medrad, Inc. (Indianola, PA, USA) as the exclusive distributor in France and the United States of CT-Guide, a visual guidance system used with computed tomography (CT). Applications include biopsies and other diagnostic imaging procedures to identify small variations in tissue density in tumors, cysts, and lesions. UltraGuide is a subsidiary of Israel-based UltraGuide, Ltd., which manufactures CT-Guide.

CT-Guide increases accuracy by graphically displaying the projected path of a surgical instrument on the same screen as the CT image, both before insertion and throughout the entire procedure. Interface with the CT image is made possible through CT-Guide's software for acquiring images from the CT scanner, a position-measuring system, and a display monitor. A respiratory gating feature overcomes breathing-related inaccuracies by monitoring the real-time motion of the target relative to its position at the time of the scan.

Medrad is a subsidiary of Schering AG (Germany). In November 2000, Medrad was selected as the exclusive worldwide distributor of SimpliCT, a CT guidance device manufactured by NeoRad AS (Oslo, Norway). "Interventional guidance is a natural extension of our diagnostic imaging product lines and fills a real need voiced by our customers,” said John P. Friel, president and CEO of Medrad.
