A joint venture company is being formed by Barco (Kortrijk, Belgium) and Toyo Corp. (Tokyo, Japan). Each will own 50% of the shares in the new company, to be called Barco-Toyo Medical Systems Japan Co., Ltd.

Barco has wide experience in providing high-performance display technology for medical applications such as x-ray, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and is a leading supplier of displays for PACS. Toyo Corp. has knowledge of the needs and demands of the Japanese medical original equipment manufacturer (OEM). The two companies will combine their expertise in order to provide customized solutions for the growing Japanese medical imaging market. For many years, Toyo has been Barco's exclusive distributor of medical imaging solutions in Japan.

"We are committed to grow in the medical imaging market by offering customized image processing solutions to medical equipment suppliers worldwide,” said Luc Vandenbroucke, president of BarcoView. "Given the strong perspectives, we believe that Japan is a promising market for our modality OEM solutions.”
