As anticipated, the completion of its US$ 2.06 billion acquisition of Instrumentarium Corp. (Helsinki, Finland) has been announced by GE Medical Systems (Waukesha, WI, USA).

Instrumentarium will become the European headquarters for GE's healthcare information technology unit and will provide significant contributions to GE's global business, including advanced research and development and manufacturing, stated GE. Combined, GE and Instrumentarium will offer a wide range of medical imaging, patient monitoring, anesthesia delivery, and critical care products. As previously announced, GE will divest the Spacelabs patient monitoring business and the Ziehm C-arm business, in order to satisfy regulatory authorities.

"The people and businesses of Instrumentarium are highly regarded and respected at GE Medical Systems, and they will contribute in major ways to the company's future, especially in the areas of product innovation, quality and service, and overall customer commitment,” said Joseph M. Hogan, president and CEO of GE Medical Systems
