Advanced Visualization and Image Processing Project Announced

By MedImaging International staff writers
Posted on 27 Jan 2015
The Flemish government agency for Innovation by Science and Technology (IWT; Brussels, Belgium) has agreed to fund a 36-month research project run jointly by Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium) and Inside Matters (Aalst, Belgium) for innovation in enterprise imaging, and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).

Under the project, named VisiCloud (Advanced visualization and image processing in the cloud), the two companies will develop an advanced visualization and image processing platform, cloud-based solutions, advanced image processing algorithms, and user experience enhancements.

The aim of the project is to support the trend of using 3-D modalities (for example Computed Tomography [CT]), 3-D techniques and tools, and cloud-based clinical applications in addition to existing PACS reports and screen captures. Agfa Healthcare has a suite of advanced visualization software and clinical software that can render and analyze 3-D information while Inside Matters will develop an advanced cloud-based CT analysis platform (to save costs and for easy access) that can handle data from 3-D X-ray microscopes.
