PACs and Cloud Storage Capabilities Offer Improved Patient Care, Increased Efficiency

A cost-effective medical picture archiving and communication system (PACS) provides effective access and archiving of images from multiple modalities using cloud technology. The radiology PACS integrates Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standards and can be accessed on Windows or Mac computer as well as mobile platforms such as iPad and Android.

Radiology PACS and Cloud Storage provider FreedomPACS recently released a new case study on how Winkler County Memorial Hospital (WCMH; Kermit, TX, USA) is enhancing patient care on a cost-effective basis.

More than 4,500 people yearly come to WCMH for emergency medical help. The case study describes how the 19-bed hospital in Winkler County has solved consistency issues with its earlier PACS and saved time with FreedomPACS Server edition and cross-platform diagnostic image viewer. Moreover, the hospital has saved 75% in medical image storage through FreedomPACS Cloud. “FreedomPACS is convenient and saves us a lot of time,” said Jose Mancha, director of radiology at WCMH. “Log on, and there’s all the information you need.”

The major benefits for WCMH with the new technology include improved and effective access to radiology images; HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996)-compliant cloud off-site image storage; and increased productivity for physicians and staff. WCMH physicians and medical staff are now easily accessing and sharing X-ray, ultrasound, and computed tomography (CT) images for timely radiology results and diagnosis.

FreedomPACS Cloud offers secure, HIPAA-compliant off-site storage for radiology images. Available with or without a PACS system, this system exploits the protection and efficiency of the cloud. It provides instant access and can integrate with other medical, equipment or PACS systems.

FreedomPACS is owned by MN Systems (Southfield, MI, USA), a joint venture between a medical software development company and a group of practicing physicians.
