Image Interoperability Platform Facilitates Image Sharing, Exchange

An integrated software suite has been developed that facilitates the sharing of diagnostic content and results across the continuum of care.

Merge Healthcare, Inc. (Chicago, IL, USA) had a multifaceted presence at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) meeting in Orlando, FL, USA, February 20-24, 2011, where the company presented the Merge iConnect platform as well as the IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) Interoperability Showcase.

Merge iConnect is a comprehensive solution suite that delivers interoperable image exchange and management by providing the capabilities to share both Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) and non-DICOM data within a single infrastructure. Merge iConnect components passed conformance testing at the IHE North American Connectathon, held in Chicago (IL, USA) during January 2011. iConnect Access participated as an IHE-compliant XDS (X Direct Save Protocol) viewer, while Merge's eMPI (enterprise Master Patient Index) was rigorously tested as an IHE PIX Manager and IHE PDQ Supplier. Both products successfully completed all testing, including security requirements as defined by the IHE ATNA (Audit Trail and Node Authentication) profile, and interoperability with over 30 other vendor products and solutions during the Connectathon.

"Image interoperability is critical to delivering true coordinated care," said Jeff Surges, Merge CEO. "We're certainly proud of thoroughly passing all IHE conformance testing for our iConnect platform. The iConnect solution makes completing the health record a reality for patients and providers"

In addition to the iConnect solution suite, Merge demonstrated its clinical product lines, including solutions for radiology, computer-aided detection (CAD), cardiology, perioperative, laboratory, and clinical trials. Merge also presented at the meeting solutions for vendors, including its gold standard DICOM and HL [health level] 7 Toolkits, as well as new capabilities in instrument connectivity.
