A new mammography system with wide-angle tomosynthesis delivers high-quality 3D images in only five seconds, offering a unique combination of speed with high depth resolution and area resolution.

Siemens Healthineers (Erlangen, Germany) has introduced Mammomat B.brilliant, a cutting-edge mammography system that features wide-angle tomosynthesis. The device's tube circles the breast at a broad 50° angle, the widest angle currently available in the market. With a scan time of approximately five seconds, Mammomat B.brilliant is the fastest wide-angle tomosynthesis system available. This enables the creation of 3D images with high-depth resolution in the least amount of time, making it highly efficient at spotting tissue abnormalities and microcalcifications. Additionally, the acquisition speed of Mammomat B.brilliant is around 35% faster than that of competing systems, offering a more comfortable experience for patients.

The system comes equipped with a prominent display monitor that clearly shows patient information and work steps from all angles. It also features the new ComfortMove function, designed to reduce physical strain on healthcare providers by making it easy to adjust the device according to the patient's body shape. This function, along with the display and a positioning laser, considerably speeds up the scan preparation process. Mammomat B.brilliant is the first offering from Siemens Healthineers to include PlatinumTomo—a combination of wide-angle tomosynthesis, a new detector, a completely re-engineered Flying Focus Spot tube, and Premia AI reconstruction to enhance image quality. The Flying focal spot technology, a first in mammography, mitigates blurring effects that could occur due to tube movements during tomosynthesis. This ensures sharp imaging even at high scanning speeds. Unlike traditional mammography where the X-ray tube stays in place, in tomosynthesis it moves around the breast, resulting in a 3D image.

"Our systems have to provide meaningful answers in the shortest possible time. This is especially important in mammography, when the stressful uncertainty for patients must be reduced to a minimum. Only Mammomat B.brilliant offers this unique combination of speed, resolution and wide angle," said Verena Schön, Head of X-Ray Products at Siemens Healthineers.
