An agreement has been announced by a leading imaging platform provider for the implementation of the first Enterprise Imaging platform, part of a long-term agreement for the management of imaging data, for the UK City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.

The agreement covers the capture, storage, and exchange of medical images using the Electronic Patient Record (EPR), and will include the addition of imaging data from cardiology, and 11 other imaging departments into the Enterprise Imaging platform, and the upgrade of Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium) signed the agreement for the implementation of the first Enterprise Imaging platform with the City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, UK) in November 2014, and began implementation in January 2015.

The 7-year contract with Agfa HealthCare includes a long-term archive solution, a Vendor-Neutral Archive (VNA) and a High-Availability (HA) PACS and Enterprise Imaging solution. The enterprise imaging solution was designed by Agfa HealthCare and will facilitate the capture, storage, and exchange of medical images using the Electronic Patient Record (EPR).

Agfa Healthcare will supply the latest IMPAX software version, the zero-footprint Enterprise Imaging XERO Viewer, and an Enterprise Imaging VNA for long-term storage of data and images. Hardware includes the Hewlett Packard (Palo Alto, CA, USA) SMAHP 3PAR NAS servers, configured for high-availability with dual data centers.

Andy Hart, director of IT and Information Governance, City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, said, “Having worked with Agfa HealthCare’s solutions for many years, we are confident in working closer together, as we know they share with us a common vision and goal: visually enabling our hospitals in order to deliver improved patient care.”
