Symposium to Highlight the Latest Innovations in Breast Imaging

An exhibition of the latest in breast imaging developments will include a diagnostic ultrasound automated breast volume scanner (ABVS), a full field digital mammography system, and next- generation breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems.

Siemens Healthcare (Erlangen, Germany) will be presenting their ultrasound, mammography and MRI breast imaging technology at Symposium Mammographicum 2012, July 1-3, in Harrogate (UK). The Acuson S2000 ABVS is a dedicated full-field breast imaging ultrasound system that allows users to acquire, analyze, and report on detailed sonographic volumes of complicated breast anatomy and pathology. It provides excellent image quality and high-resolution biopsy guidance, and color Doppler imaging. The Acuson S2000 is supported by a range of breast applications, including fatty tissue imaging and eSie Touch elasticity imaging.

“The S2000 ABVS features an adjustable scanner arm and allows viewing of the anatomical coronal plane not available with conventional handheld ultrasound,” said Bernadette Leonard, regional sales and clinical applications manager for ultrasound at Siemens Healthcare. “The detailed images from the full-field ultrasound give clinical confidence to screening or diagnostic departments of the exact location and size of lesions. This in turn helps with treatment planning.”

Moreover, the Mammomat Inspiration, a full field digital mammography system designed to meet the needs of the patient, clinician, and mammographer, will be presented at the Symposium Mammographicum. The Inspiration offers a range of features including low dose technology, “single touch” positioning, and true isocentric rotation of the X-ray tube, making it easy to upgrade to stereotactic biopsy and three-dimensional (3D) tomosynthesis. An optional MoodLight enhances the clinical environment for patient comfort.

New breast MRI processing technology will also be demonstrated by the MR syngo.via workstation, a multimodality image reporting system that is both fast and easy to use. The software package pulls together clinical images for interpretation and automatically pre-processes according to condition-specific requirements in one click. This reduction in manual steps helps improve departmental workflow and promotes greater diagnostic effectiveness.
