A new, fast, high-resolution 3D breast tomosynthesis mammography system is now available for purchase in Europe.

The system is a new addition to an existing portfolio of breast cancer screening, diagnostic and interventional products and offers new and innovative features intended to provide higher quality 3D images, enhanced workflow, an improved mammography experience, and low-dose options.

The new 3Dimensions mammography system is made by Hologic (Bedford, MA, USA), and features Clarity HD high-resolution 3D imaging, and Intelligent 2D imaging technology that together provide improved image contrast, clarity, and detail, with a lower radiation dose. Intelligent 2D imaging uses smart mapping that can help a radiologist progress from a suspicious area detected on the 2D image, to the related point of interest on the 3D slice, optimizing the clinician workflow and saving time.

The 3Dimensions system also features the Hologic SmartCurve breast stabilization system that can provide a more comfortable mammogram in up to 93% of women surveyed, a curved compression surface that mirrors the shape of a woman’s breast, and advanced processing software for optimal image quality. Another feature is the Quantra 2.2 breast density assessment software that provides standardized patient protocols, and a consistent and reproducible breast density assessment.

Hologic regional president, EMEA and Canada, Jan Verstreken, said, "Clinicians across Europe have made clear their desire for breast cancer screening technology that offers improved accuracy, clarity and workflow, and the 3Dimensions system addresses each of those specific areas. We are thrilled to introduce this comprehensive solution, which will undoubtedly make a positive impact on European radiologists, technologists and patients alike."
