A leading MR systems developer has showcased three new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems, intended for preclinical use.

The company demonstrated it’s 3-T, 4.7-T and 7-T MRI cryogen-free magnet technology at the annual International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM 2015; Berkeley, CA, USA) in Toronto (ON, Canada) and at the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI 2015; Reston, VA, USA) held in Baltimore (MD, USA) shows in June 2015.

The MRI systems were designed by MR Solutions (Guildford, Surrey, UK), and enable researchers in Class 3 or 4 laboratories to use MR systems within their labs and provide images with higher spatial resolution and superior soft tissue contrast. MR Solutions also displayed their new simultaneously and sequentially Positron Emission Tomography (PET)-MRI.

The technology developed by MR Solutions uses superconducting wire, which eliminates the need for helium cooling external venting. The new technology has reduced costs in the preclinical scanning market and reduced the stray magnetic field to a safe distance of several centimeters.

Dr. David Taylor, CEO of MR Solutions, said, “The delegates at ISMRM and SNMMI that we have spoken to were very keen to hear about our multimodality imaging systems and additional PET and SPECT accessories. We are really delighted to be able to offer a system which can not only meet their MRI needs but can also incorporate additional PET and SPECT functions too.”
