A novel mobile C-arm offers a flexible, reliable, and cost-effective solution for clinics with small operating rooms (ORs) or budgetary constraints.

The Vision RFD Hybrid Edition is a mobile C-arm tailored for hybrid OR requirements, including full motorization in four axes (horizontal, vertical, orbital rotation, and angulations) and intuitive joystick operation. The operator must touch any two contact points on the joystick to activate movement of the C-arm, preventing accidental operation. The joystick module also has a function for defining an isocenter around which the system moves concentrically. In addition to numerous orthopedic applications, the isocentric functionality offers added clinical value, in particular for cardiac applications.

Another important feature is Distance Control, an assistance system supporting noncontact collision protection. The automatic surface detection is integrated around the lower edge of the 20 cm x 20 cm flat-panel. When in the patient’s proximity, the motorized movement is slowed down; the movement stops immediately before entering a defined safety zone. The flat-panel detector also offers an optimum size, suited for a wide range of clinical applications, particularly in the field of cardiology and cardiac surgery.

Other features include an active liquid cooling system, which keeps the 25 kW power generator at a consistent operating temperature and prevents it from overheating. It thus ensures reliable imaging without interruption, even during lengthy procedures. The system also features SmartDose, a comprehensive concept for dose reduction, combines a host of functions such as laser positioning, Object Detected Dose Control (ODDC), adaptive filtering technology, and PreMag (radiation-free magnification). The Vision RFD Hybrid Edition is a product of Ziehm Imaging (Nuremberg, Germany).

“With the new generation of the Ziehm Vision RFD Hybrid Edition we are offering, for the first time, full motorization of a mobile C-arm. Each position can be stored at the touch of a button and called up again at any time,” said Klaus Hörndler, managing director of Ziehm Imaging. “This allows the operator to access the desired viewing angles and anatomic visualizations without having to constantly reposition the system on the OR table.”

“Most vascular procedures previously carried out invasively can now be performed minimally invasively thanks to endovascular techniques. Mobile imaging plays an increasingly important role here,” added William Julien, MD, president of South Florida Vascular Associates (Coconut Creek, FL, USA). “The motorized Ziehm Vision RFD is the best mobile system on the market.”
