Siemens Wins International Award for CT System

Siemens Medical Solutions (Erlangen, Germany) has been awarded its third consecutive International Stevie Award by the International Business Awards (IBA; Farifax, VA, USA).

This year, Siemens won best new product honors for its Somatom Definition computed tomography (CT) system, the only dual-source CT system that incorporates two x-ray sources and two detectors in a single scanner. In 2005, the IBA named Siemens the most innovative company and in 2004 honored Erich Reinhardt, Ph.D., president and CEO, with the best-executive award.

This year's award-winner, the Somatom Definition, acquires images twice as fast as any existing multi-slice CT technology and can deliver motion-free cardiac images, independent of heart rate and without the need for medication to slow a patient's heart, as was required with previous systems. "Our winning streak of three consecutive Stevie awards recognizes the company's overall strategy to lead the market and demonstrates our commitment to innovation,” said Bernd Montag, president, CT Division, Siemens Medical Solutions.

Honoring companies of all types and sizes and the individuals behind them, the Stevies recognize outstanding performances in the workplace worldwide. The International Business Awards are the only global, all-encompassing business awards program honoring great performances in the workplace. Nicknamed the "Stevie” for the Greek word "crowned,” the awards were presented to winners on June 26, 2006, in New York City (NY, USA). Recipients of 82 International Stevie Award trophies were selected from more than 700 nominations received from companies and individuals in more than 30 countries.

"The growth in entries this year illustrates the increasing importance of The International Business Awards worldwide,” said Michael Gallagher, president, The Stevie Awards, presenters of the IBAs. "We congratulate all of the finalists and International Stevie Awards winners.”
