A large digital radiography (DR) detector enables imaging centers that specialize in long-length imaging to increase productivity while decreasing both patient discomfort and dose.

The Carestream (Rochester, NY, USA) DRX-L DR detector provides a large field of view and high resolution for leg-length and spine exams. Since images are acquired in a single exposure, radiation dose and overall exam time are decreased, compared to multiple exposure acquisition. This minimizes patient discomfort by reducing the time they need to remain still, minimizes the need for retakes, and eliminates subsequent image manipulation and stitching. The detector also features the X-Factor, which means it can be shared with other compatible DRX equipment.

The DRX-L Detector uses Carestream’s ImageView Software with Eclipse Image Processing to provide a high quality unified image. Additional features of ImageView include Enhanced Visualization Processing (EVP) Plus, which supports multiband frequency processing to provide better noise control, sharpness, contrast and density while minimizing artifacts; PICC lines and tubes visualization; bone suppression and pneumothorax visualization by creating optimized companion images from the original exposure; and automatic detection and suppression of gridline artifacts.

“This detector will allow facilities to conduct critical long-length exams efficiently and seamlessly while delivering the highest level of care with imaging, diagnosing and treatment planning for patients,” said Jill Hamman, worldwide marketing manager at Carestream. “The DRX-L Detector captures the entire long-length image dimensions, whether imaging the spine, performing a scoliosis exam or a hip-to-heel exam, with one single shot and one single exposure.”
