A Retrofit Solution Provides Cost-Effective Migration Path to Direct Radiography

By MedImaging International staff writers
Posted on 02 Oct 2012
Using a new cost-effective direct radiography (DR) upgrade system, facilities get the most out of their X-ray investments by making the transition from analog film or computed radiography (CR) imaging to DR, and experience the benefits of cassette-less image capture to improve workflow and productivity.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium) announced the availability of DX-D Retrofit with Musica2 throughout North America. More...
The DX-D Retrofit detector offers an easy and cost-effective way to migrate to direct digital imaging using the existing X-ray equipment. Installation is fast, simple, and non-invasive: with its simple connection to the X-ray unit’s console, DX-D Retrofit does not alter the existing functionality of the X-ray unit. It comes with options of wireless cesium iodide (CsI) or tethered detectors. The wireless panels may be shared with other fixed or mobile Agfa HealthCare DR solutions for further cost reduction.

The 34 x 53 cm cassette-size detector fits most standard buckies, enabling facilities to immediately experience the benefits of cassette-less workflow, including immediate verification of positioning and image quality for more rapid transmission of the image to the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) in Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format.

The system uses Agfa HealthCare’s NX workstation, therefore, images have the same look and feel of Agfa HealthCare’s CR solutions. It offers fast image previews and low cycle times, as well as connectivity with a facility’s radiology information systems (RIS), PACS, and hospital information systems (HIS).

The noninvasive installation of DX-D Retrofit allows quick installation, minimizing disruption to patient scheduling. Agfa HealthCare’s Musica2 advanced image processing offers excellent image quality and cesium detectors provide the potential for dose reduction.

“With the DX-D Retrofit, Agfa HealthCare is further extending its DR portfolio and offering facilities of all sizes, budgets, and imaging volumes an economical migration path to DR and all of its advantages,” said Greg Cefalo, Agfa HealthCare imaging business unit manager for the United States. “This product provides healthcare facilities not only improved workflow, but the excellent image quality that Agfa HealthCare is known for, all in an affordable package.”
