Two UK National Health Service (NHS) Trust hospitals have awarded a 10-year contract for a variety of managed equipment services and imaging solutions.

The hospitals serve more than half a million patients in the midwest of the UK will benefit from state-of-the-art imaging systems. The contract covers the provision, renewal and maintenance of medical imaging equipment at four hospital sites, optimization of hospital processes, and design of technology roadmaps for new equipment. The contract also includes professional services, financing, room planning, clinician training, and onsite technical support.

The Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust (SWBH NHS Trust; Birmingham, UK) awarded the EUR 50 million cooperate contract to Siemens Healthineers (Erlangen, Germany). The contract is aimed to help the trust deal with increasing workloads, limited budgets, and a yearly 10-15% increase in demand for Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging.

Dr. Jonathan Benham, consultant radiologist, SWBH NHS Trust, said, "The new Midland Metropolitan Hospital is set to open in 2018 and it is essential that the imaging department is equipped with the right technology to meet our needs to prepare us for the future. The partnership will enable both staff and patients to benefit from a well-designed clinical environment, reduced downtime and improved patient turnaround times. An investment in modern technology is an investment in our patients, who will benefit from the latest medical imaging techniques greatly."
