Pioneer in Orthopedic Imaging to Provide Novel Online 3-D Modeling Service for Hospitals

A company that pioneered 2-D/3-D orthopedic medical imaging has announced a new personalized 3-D image modeling service using stereo-radiographic patient images, for hospitals and healthcare professionals worldwide.

The service will be able to generate 3-D models, and related clinical data, to support therapeutic decision making, surgery planning, and control for imaging of the spine, hip, and knee. The service will also support the design of scoliosis braces, and ribcage imaging research.

The EOS medical imaging system software was developed by EOS imaging (Paris, France), and the 3-D modeling service will be provided from the EOS’ Montreal plant.

The EOS imaging system creates full-body stereo-radiographic images, with patients in functional body positions, in 2-D and 3-D. The system uses 95% less radiation than a standard Computed Tomography scan, and 50% to 85% less radiation than digital radiology scans.

Another new option from EOS imaging, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved EOS Micro Dose feature helps lower the radiation dose for pediatric spine follow up imaging even further.

A nonprofit foundation, Setting Scoliosis Straight Foundation (SSSF), that helps the Harms Study Group (HSG) develop treatments for spinal deformities in children and adolescents, has already signed up to use the new service. The system will help HSG develop techniques to correct spinal deformity, and allows surgeons of the Harms Study Group to access 3-D data while performing scoliosis surgery.

CEO of EOS Imaging Marie Meynadier, said, “EOS 3D Service affords surgeons and bracing professionals currently without direct access to our sterEOS workstation to benefit from the powerhouse of our patient 3D models and data. We are happy to extend this service to all of our customers and to their referrals, adding further value to the suite of software and tools based on the EOS platform.”
