Wireless Flat Panel Detector Improves Workflow, Accommodates Wider Field Exams

A new wireless flat panel detector (FPD) improves technologist workflow by reducing the amount of time needed to reposition and rotate the detector during chest or abdominal imaging. The 43 cm x 43 cm detector size is particularly useful in portable examinations where additional field of view can be helpful during difficult positioning.

FujiFilm Medical Systems USA, Inc. (Stamford, CT, USA) announced the commercial availability of the FDR D-EVO Wireless 43 cm x 43 cm FPD. This addition to the FDR D-EVO line up makes Fujifilm the first and only medical imaging vendor to provide a 43 cm x 43 cm wireless, flat panel detector, which is now available in the United States.

“Fujifilm’s commitment to providing imaging solutions for nearly any general radiology exam is proven by this exciting extension to the FDR D-EVO detector family,” stated David Hotchkiss, director of product marketing, modality solutions for Fujifilm. “The 43 cm x 43 cm detector format accommodates wider field exams essential for the ever growing demand of today's larger patient population. And since it is wireless, its flexibility is ideal for patients on stretchers and in wheelchairs as well as non-grid examinations.”

Adding to the product’s versatility is Fujifilm’s newest image processing software Dynamic Visualization, which is featured in the system’s FDX Console workstation. The new imaging software offers enhanced image quality throughout the entire exposed area allowing physicians to visualize detail more efficiently. The FDX Console also employs unique new features such as an auto-trimming feature, which allows for off center images of smaller anatomy to be sent to picture archiving and communication system (PACS) at full size for optimal viewing.

Similar to the smaller, 35.5 cm x 43 cm FDR D-EVO, the system offers dose efficiency improvements using Fujifilm’s patented irradiation side sampling (ISS). ISS is a novel technology that helps improve detective quantum efficiency (DQE) and enables technologists to take high quality images at lower doses. This design reduces scatter and blur of X-rays captured, resulting in sharper images with greater detail to enhance diagnostic confidence for the radiologist.

Moreover, the FDR D-EVO Wireless 43 cm x 43 cm FPD also offers a lasting power supply that will reduce downtime and increase throughput. The system offers a lightweight removable lithium ion battery that provides up to three hours or 200 exposures of use per charge. A multicharger system provides fast charge times and two spare batteries are also included with the detector so there is always a charged battery waiting and ready. An optional detachable cord can be used to provide the option for continuous charging and the ability to leave the detector in the bucky for uninterrupted extended use.
