C-Arm Detector Combines Flat-Panel Technology with Digital Imaging

Designed for use in endovascular surgery, interventional cardiology, and interventional radiology, a new mobile C-arm combines the latest flat-panel technology and a digital imaging chain with a compact design. During demanding procedures, physicians will benefit from improved visualization, workflow, and reduced radiation dose.

Ziehm Imaging (Nuremberg, Germany) reported that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given 510k clearance for the latest innovative mobile C-arm, the Ziehm Vision RFD, for marketing and sales within the United States.

The Ziehm Vision RFD combines innovative flat-panel technology with the sophisticated ODDC (object detected dose control) software and specially designed anatomic programs for excellent image quality at minimal dose. The flat-panel detector allows for digital, distortion-free imaging and better access to the patient due to the larger C-arm opening and the 165o orbital rotation. Due to pulse technology at up to 25 frames per second, the system provides sharp, high contrast images of vasculature, bone, and soft tissue structures, which is indispensable particularly for complex applications in endovascular surgery. The excellent image quality, once only expected from fixed room systems, is now available in a mobile interventional suite.

Because of its compact design and the flat panel detector's increased field of view, the Ziehm Vision RFD provides physicians with a wide range of benefits. The 30 cm x 30 cm size of the flat panel detector and the 1,500 x 1,500 matrix resolution provides extended dynamic range and 49% greater anatomic viewing, when compared to 12-inch (30.5-cm) image intensifier systems, providing comprehensive information about the patient's anatomy.

With the added advantage of a smaller footprint, users receive the benefit of greater maneuverability. At the same time, the mobile interventional suite provides better access to the patient due to the larger C-arm opening and the 165o orbital rotation. Moreover, with the Ziehm Vision RFD, user workflow is simplified and day-to-day clinical efficiency is improved through the innovative VisionCenter touchscreen user interface. Because of its excellent image quality and user friendliness, the Ziehm Vision RFD is suitable for a wide variety of clinical tasks, particularly for demanding procedures common in endovascular surgery, interventional radiology, and interventional cardiology.
