Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium) showcased how augmented intelligence will be an integral part of the radiologists' journey towards value-based care at RSNA 2017.

Agfa HealthCare is a provider of eHealth & Digital Imaging solutions designed to optimize efficiency of care organizations and improve patient care. The company aims to realize value from the advances in Augmented Intelligence, machine learning, and computer assisted diagnosis by embedding intelligence in the clinical workflows and by providing clinicians synergistic innovations from the best-of-breed industry vendors and care providers. Given the nascent state of Augmented Intelligence within healthcare, the company expects its approach will allow care organizations to realize gains from innovations more quickly and achieve better delivery of care with the workflow-optimized artificial intelligence solutions.

At RSNA 2017, the company demonstrated its latest work-in-progress visions for Augmented Intelligence through workflow optimized integration of its Enterprise Imaging solution with products offered by IBM Watson Health, RadLogics and Mindshare Medical. The Enterprise Imaging solution consolidates hardware, storage, and software, and enables any provider in the system with secure access to clinically relevant imaging data for collaboration and consultation. The massively scalable Enterprise Imaging platform consists of modular services, including a highly customizable task-based workflow tool designed for radiologists and cardiologists to enable optimal efficiency and effectiveness in reading imaging studies, as well as image exchange, VNA, web-based XERO universal image viewer, and standardized departmental workflows, which allow all image-producing service lines to capture and associate imaging studies with an episode of care.

The company also demonstrated another work in progress - organically conceived and third-party algorithms integrated into its Enterprise Imaging solution to help screen for life-threatening diseases such as cancer and tuberculosis. These algorithms integrated with the company's Enterprise Imaging offering will allow healthcare providers to view contextual images and optimize screening workflows.

"The approach we are pursuing will allow us to offer clients leading edge algorithms that are tied together and bolstered with the capabilities of our flagship Enterprise Imaging offering. Tools for advanced analytics, workflow automation, visual collaboration and reports will help radiologists, physicians and clinicians increase throughput and streamline care delivery," said James Jay, President, Imaging IT Solutions at Agfa HealthCare. "Agfa HealthCare's customers are building data lakes with imaging records, making data available for multidisciplinary reviews, clinical research, and teaching, helping foster a cohesive quality driven workflow culture."
