PACS, Digital Radiography, and Voice Recognition Integration Provides Image Acquisition-to-Reporting Technology to the US Navy

High-quality images with enhanced image processing and voice recognition enable streamlined reporting and dictation from anywhere, irrespective of where the exam was generated or accessed, substantially simplifying physician workflow.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium) reported that the United States Navy has granted the company a contract to upgrade 30 plus ships in the US Navy fleet to the latest digital radiography (DR) systems with Agfa HealthCare’s DX-D 400, DX-D 100, and other systems. To be used in combination with Agfa HealthCare’s Impax picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and TalkStation voice recognition system for diagnostic reporting, this technology will provide the US Navy with improved, efficient workflow from image acquisition to study reporting.

The comprehensive technology will enable streamlined workflow from image acquisition to image interpretation by the radiologists using Impax PACS at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (Bethesda, MD, USA). Walter Reed uses the Impax PACS and TalkStation for dictation and reporting and will now be able to send and receive complete reports as well full patient records, additionally streamlining reporting the process by allowing radiologists to easily dictate, code, edit, and sign reports within minutes.

Agfa HealthCare’s system includes the DX-D 100, a highly maneuverable, portable DR unit that enables high quality radiology exams to be effectively performed in mobile settings, including emergency departments, intensive care units (ICU), operating rooms, or at the bedside. The DX-D 400 is a floor-mounted X-ray suite that provides sophisticated imaging technology cost-effectively. Similar to all Agfa computed radiography (CR) and DR imaging systems, the DX-D 100 and DX-D 400 include Agfa HealthCare’s Musica2 processing software, which produces excellent image quality. The standard NX user interface used across the entire range of DR and CR systems provides a smooth transition to DR technology.

Agfa HealthCare is the exclusive provider of CR systems on over 55 ships in the US Navy fleet.
