Image Management System Enhances Communication Flow

Posted on 11 Mar 2009
An optimized clinical image management system has been designed to enhance the communication flow and efficiency.

Utilizing the Ultima Tera Box image management system, the user can either install it as a standalone system to store and manage clinical images or as a solution, with the Ultima Burner, to burn clinical images on CDs and DVDs. The clinical image management has now come into the digital age. Today, digital images become the key communication tool among the medical systems and the patients.

The system has a high storage capacity. The Ultima tera box gives the user the possibility to store up to 16,000 exams with the 2-terabyte (TB) configuration, 24,000 exams with the 3 TB configuration, and 32,000 exams with the 4 TB configuration. Image compression allows the user to multiply storage capacity by 2.

Secure and effective image storage is provided with the latest storage technologies (RAID [redundant array of independent disks] with Hotswap disk); the latest database engine from Microsoft (SQL Server 2005); and a high uptime: a Windows server 2003 on an HP Proliant server.

The system additionally provides excellent integration into the workflow compatible with Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) modality/workstation and communication with Integrating the Hospital Enterprise- (IHE)-compliant radiology information system/hospital information system (RIS/HIS) (HL7 2.3). Clinical image management and routing allow image distribution and web applications with unlimited connection access and no user fees.

The system was developed by GE Healthcare (Chalfont St. Giles, UK).
