An innovative three dimensional (3D) imaging system features a unique sliding double C-arm, offering a flexibility that enables radial access procedures with greater ease.

The new Canon Medical Systems (Tochigi, Japan) Alphenix Sky + system is an interventional X-ray platform that features a double sliding C-arm which allows for complete rotation around the patient from either the right or left side of the integrated CAT—880 tilt table. The unique C-arm configuration allows flip capability, lateral flexibility, increased speed, and full body 3D imaging with ImagingRite technology. A dose tracking system (DTS) provides a live overview of peak skin dose, while the advanced collimator moves asymmetrically, improving comfort and lowering overall patient dose.

The 30 × 40 cm high definition (HD) flat panel detector (FPD) provides images with 76 micron resolution for resolving fine details, helping clinicians see minute features. In addition, Alphenix Sky + integrates seamlessly with the Aquilion CT imaging suite, providing one streamlined workflow in a single clinical setting. The system is designed for use in complex interventional procedures, such as stent positioning and stent apposition, wire and catheter navigation through stent struts, prostate embolization, endovascular aortic aneurysm repair, aneurysm coil deployment, and more.

“The all new Alphenix was designed based on the feedback we’ve received from clinicians. With the hybrid catheterization cilt/Cradle table and workflow enhancements enabled by the new Alphenix Workstation, we are confident this new system delivers on our customers’ unmet needs,” said Casey Waldo, director of the vascular business unit at Canon Medical Systems. “The new system expands the capabilities of 4D CT even further and creates new opportunities for innovation through intervention.”

“The installation of the Alphenix Sky + system is an exciting addition to interventional radiology services within LGH Imaging. Already, the capabilities of the system and the training and support given by Cannon have enabled us to offer additional complex procedures,” said Claire Maxim, clinical lead superintendent radiographer at Leicester General Hospital (LGH; United Kingdom). “This in turn ensures that patients are receiving dedicated and specialist care and support for their procedures on one site.”
