An Italian company launches across-the-board Upgrade of MRI hardware and software systems.

The upgrade launched at the 2015 European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna (Austria) is available for the entire portfolio of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems manufactured by Esaote (Genova, Italy).

The Evolution'15 (EVO'15) upgrade provides improved image quality using software algorithms (eXP technology), the Graphic Processing Unit (GPU), and X-MAR (Metal Artefact Reduction). The upgrade also features a reduction of image acquisition and reconstruction times by up to 50% and an increase in signal homogeneity and signal-to-noise ratio by using multichannel lumbar and cervical spine coils.

Dr. Frieder Mauch, Sportklinik (Stuttgart, Germany), referring to Esaote’s G-scan Brio weight-bearing MRI system with the EVO'15 upgrade, said, “Having two or more images showing what is happening when the patient is in different weight-bearing positions can give a better idea of the mechanical issue causing the pain. Before the EVO’15 Upgrade, this exam procedure took longer, which meant greater patient discomfort, and more movement artifacts. Now, with the EVO 3D sequence, we can run just one steady state sequence in just one plane, and then reconstruct images in any other plane using the MPR (Multi-Planar Reconstruction) features. This makes for a full weight-bearing exam in less than 10 minutes.”
