A new computed radiography (CR) system provides high quality digital imaging to small hospitals and private practices. Easy to install and maintain, the system enables fast workflow with low total cost of ownership.

Agfa HealthCare (Morstel, Belgium) recently reported that its cost effective, table-top CR solution, the CR 10-X, is now US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k)-cleared in the United States and available throughout North America. This cost-effective, compact, tabletop medical imaging digitizer provides small hospitals and practices an economical path from analog to digital with all the advantages of excellent digital image quality.

Designed to fit in small spaces, including mobile environments, the CR 10-X is optimized for a range of imaging exams from general radiography to orthopedic, chiropractic, and full leg/full spine (FLFS) applications. It offers high-resolution scanning of 100 µm pixels at a rate of 34 imaging plates per hour in a single-cassette feed. The technology is easy to install and maintain, making the move to digital imaging both cost-effective and convenient.

“With healthcare becoming digital, we’re pleased to bring the CR 10-X imaging digitizer to the market and enable small imaging departments and low volume private practices to finally make the transition to digital X-ray,” said Greg Cefalo, US digital radiography business unit manager, Agfa HealthCare. “Advanced technologies that offer high image quality, fast workflow, and increased patient throughput should be available to every facility and the patients they care for.”

The CR 10-X has network capabilities that allow fast workflow and seamless integration. As with all Agfa HealthCare digital imaging products, it comes with Musica2 imaging processing technology, which automatically applies the correct image enhancement parameters independent of the exam type. Seamless integration is available with the NX workstation, Agfa HealthCare’s image identification, and quality control tool. Fully Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM)-compliant, the NX workstation provides fast image acquisition and a smooth workflow. Combining the CR 10-X with Agfa HealthCare’s Drystar 5302 imager or Agfa HealthCare’s SE Suite software provides a complete hardcopy or softcopy CR system at a cost-effective price.
Special light-emitting diode (LED) technology in the erasure unit means also low power consumption. With a “one screwdriver” concept and modular, component-based design, maintenance of the CR 10-X is easy, fast, and cost-effective.

“CR 10-X was successfully launched at the ECR 2012 in Vienna,” said Dirk Debusscher, vice president, imaging at Agfa HealthCare. “Since then, most customer installation occurred in Europe and Asia Pacific, typically in small hospitals and private practices for both human and veterinary use. First customer reactions were enthusiastic about the high image quality, ease of use and overall performance of this new CR 10-X.”
